2009 Yarra Valley Pinot Noir Rosé

Current Vintage 2009

Pinot Noir grapes are grown solely for the production of this serious style of Rosé. Time on skins in minimised to reduce the colour and tannin in the wine, and maximise purity. It showcases delicate strawberry-like Pinot Noir with superb texture and balance. Traditional barrel fermentation is seasoned French oak has resulted in a wine of complexity, softness, and finesse with a clean, refreshing finish.

The Vineyard

The fruit for this wine is grown at our Lusatia Park Vineyard near Woori Yallock in the Upper Yarra Valley. The combination of a cool climate, deep, free draining red soil and fastidious viticulture produces grapes of deep concentration, purity and regional character. Vintage 2009 in the Yarra Valley was very warm and dry resulting in small yields of intensely flavoured grapes.

The Winemaking

Pinot Noir grapes were hand-harvested in early March and whole-bunch pressed with no sulphur dioxide or acid addition. The settled juice was then racked to seasoned French oak barriques from the forests of Troncais and Vosges and fermented with indigenous yeasts. At the completion of full malolactic fermentation, the wine was lightly fined, filtered and cold stabilised. The finished wine was bottled under screwcap in July 2009 in order to preserve the delicate fruit flavours.
