2009 Yarra Valley Sauvignon BlancCurrent Vintage 2009 The 2009 Yarra Valley Sauvignon retains the hallmark racy natural acidity and minerality of fine Sauvignon Blanc. The wine has a pristine, almost colourless appearance in the glass. On the nose the wine has citrus blossom, light gooseberry and delicate lees influences. Barrel fermentation and natural yeasts provide a subtle textural quality that balances the minerally, crisp and clean finish. The Vineyard The fruit for this wine is grown at our Lusatia Park Vineyard near Woori Yallock in the Upper Yarra Valley. The elevation, cool climate and free draining soils in this vineyard make it the perfect place to grow Sauvignon Blanc. Vintage 2009 was again among the earliest on record, reflecting the hot, dry summer. Fortunately flavour, acid and sugars all ripened evenly and perfect fruit was picked for this lovely, dry wine. The Winemaking After night harvesting, the fruit was immediately transferred to the winery where it was crushed, pressed and only minimally settled before being racked to all French oak barriques for 100% barrel fermentation. Partial indigenous fermentation, lees stirring and gentle reductive handling were employed before light fining and filtration. The finished wine was bottled under screwcap in July 2009 in order to preserve crispness and vibrancy. Technical Data Alcohol: 12.5%
